Wyze Wireless Video Doorbell Pro Review: An In-Depth Look at Its Features and Performance

When it comes to doorstep security, the Wyze Wireless Video Doorbell Pro stands tall with its impressive set of features and affordability. Offering a crisp 1440 HD resolution, this doorbell ensures you never miss a detail. The 1:1 aspect ratio provides a more comprehensive head-to-toe view compared to traditional doorbells. With all components included for flexible installations and a battery that promises longevity, the Wyze Doorbell Pro positions itself as a budget-friendly powerhouse in home security. It even comes with a separate chime, multiple tunes to choose from, and night vision technology, making it versatile for any home.

Pros and Cons: A Closer Examination

Quality and Resolution

One of the standout features of the Wyze Wireless Video Doorbell Pro is its exceptional video quality, as noted by several customers. Users often highlight the excellent clarity, even under challenging lighting conditions. A customer from Cebu, Philippines, praises its image quality and straightforward setup, saying, "Image quality is excellent, easy setup." Another review mentions how well the doorbell handles direct sunlight without compromising video quality, a feat not all video doorbells can achieve.

Pros:

  • High-resolution 1440p video offers outstanding clarity.
  • Handles varying lighting conditions remarkably.
  • Night vision is available in color and monochrome, allowing for flexibility based on user preferences.

Cons:

  • While many found the quality exceptional, a few users felt the nighttime video could be improved slightly.

Usability and Installation

The installation process of the Wyze Doorbell is also highly praised for its simplicity and versatility. Users appreciate the option to choose between sticking with an adhesive or hardwiring it, depending on setup preferences. For instance, a user without pre-existing wiring shares, "Installation was simple with the sticky tape," making it convenient for any home configuration.

Pros:

  • Easy installation with included adhesive tape or screws.
  • Compatible with Wi-Fi and offers an easy-to-navigate smartphone app.
  • Quick setup time, often taking less than 30 seconds for basic installation.

Cons:

  • Google Home integration seems lacking, with one customer stating, "It doesn’t really work with Google Home."

Features and Functionality

Enhanced features like motion and sound detection, AI-assisted alert options, and the option to opt into the Cam Plus service for further functionalities are greatly valued by users. These additional qualities allow homeowners to customize notifications and recording settings to their liking. One satisfied customer highlights, "There are plenty of options to personalize your notification and recording settings."

Pros:

  • Advanced AI features, such as Package and Person Detection, via Cam Plus.
  • Comprehensive notification and recording options.
  • Built-in speaker and microphone for effective two-way communication.

Cons:

  • Some issues have been noted with connectivity, particularly with Wi-Fi frequencies and device interference.
  • Interference and occasional resetting of smart detection settings can cause frustration for users.

Battery Life and Durability

Battery life is one of the most discussed aspects among reviewers. Although advertised to last up to six months, real-world use indicates otherwise. Many users suggest the battery life spans between 2 to 3 weeks on average, with some mitigating factors affecting this outcome.

Pros:

  • Large battery with decent longevity for high-traffic areas.
  • Durable build quality praised in multiple reviews, including outdoor endurance.

Cons:

  • Claims of six months battery life seem optimistic, with customers reporting significantly shorter durations.
  • High traffic areas and frequent alerts heavily impact battery life, reducing it to mere weeks.

Conclusion: A Balanced Perspective

With an average rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars from over 4,000 global ratings, the Wyze Wireless Video Doorbell Pro has generally impressed its user base with its affordability, versatile installation options, and high-definition video clarity. It excels in easy installation and usability, accommodating both tech-savvy and novice users. However, integration issues and concerns over battery life do occasionally detract from its otherwise glowing performance.

Ultimately, if you are seeking an affordable and reliable video doorbell that covers most bases effectively, the Wyze Wireless Video Doorbell Pro is a sound investment. Adjust your battery life expectations to around a month, and you will likely find it a worthy addition to your home security setup.

Comments from Amazon:

Using this dual doorbell on our gate entrance to our property in Cebu PH. Image quality is excellent, easy setup. Rings doorbell and a few cams in house when someone is standing there. Battery life is excellent, lasts about 3 weeks but it's doing alot. Verbal warning let's people know it's recording. Records motion and sound. Solid mount. Also still using the dual doorbell that I beta tested on front door! Wyze products including the variety of cams around the house function excellent. Quality cams in my opinion in both build and picture!

For price and features, I don’t think this camera can be beat. You can make it all local or join their service for added AI assisted bells and whistles. I love it. The door gets a lot of traffic so even though it’s processing a lot of alerts, battery life is measured in weeks… which is awesome, because I don’t have wired power to the porch except for the porch light. Video quality and night vision are great. It faces east so it gets direct sunlight which some video doorbells struggle with. This still works great and aetup couldn’t be easier. I have only one complaint. It doesn’t really work with Google Home. It shows up there but you can’t do anything with it. I bought it specifically for this feature… but I liked the other functions so much I kept it anyway and just use their app… which is very usable.

This is definitely a sound investment, the build quality of this camera is amazing. It is so easy installation with detailed instructions on how to install both hardwired and wirelessly. Two night vision modes, allowing you to see everything in color clearly at night. It comes with motion and sound detection, there are a lot of features in the app. Although I recommend getting one of the WYZE Cam security services offered, you can also record straight to SD card. All footage of which is accessible in the app. Best value for your hard earned dollar.

I had a package stolen off my porch and decided to get a video doorbell as a deterrent. I've been happy with my other Wyze camera for years, so I thought I'd give their video doorbell a try. Since my front door doesn't have a spot for wiring, I needed a battery-powered option. Installation was simple with the sticky tape. This model doesn't support an SD card, so I paid $20 for the Pro account to get AI features and additional storage. It's much cheaper than other camera plans out there. There's also a free tier with notifications, but it's limited. Initially, I had some issues where I had to keep resetting my router because the doorbell wouldn't connect. After a week or two, that problem seemed to go away. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with it. The video quality is good, and I get instant notifications on my phone whenever someone walks on my porch or delivers a package. There are plenty of options to personalize your notification and recording settings. The only thing I don't like is the inflated claims about battery life. The description says "up to six months," but I got about a week out of it at first. To be fair, I live on a busy street with lots of foot and car traffic. I emailed customer support and asked about settings to improve battery life, like changing which events trigger notifications, making the detection zone smaller, and setting detection sensitivity to low. After making those changes, I now get about 2-3 weeks between charges. It takes around 4-5 hours to fully charge the battery. While 2-3 weeks isn't awful, it's nowhere near six months. Again, if you live on a less busy street, you'd probably get better battery life. Most people in reviews claim 3 weeks to a month, so it's still absurd to claim six months. Overall, I’m pretty happy with the video doorbell. Just make sure to set your battery expectations to around a month.

I've actually gone through two units because I was sure the first one was defective. Nope. Claims to work on both 2.4g and 5g WiFi frequencies. The problems I have experienced on the 2.4g frequency are more than doubled on the 5g frequency. It also seems to not like other devices such as phones and tablets on the same frequency. Turning airplane mode on my phone on and off would cause it to malfunction. Doorbell, chime box, and router need to be within 30 feet of each other for best results. Mine are about 6 feet from each other and all of these issues are persistent. I've even tested having all three in the same room with the same results. Several times a week (sometimes daily) the system will drop connection, stop recording and uploading, stop sending notifications, and will not reconnect unless I restart the chime box or the router. The doorbell WILL work on the chime box regardless, so that connection doesn't seem to be the problem, but several times a week it turns into just an overpriced remote doorbell with no other functionality. When it DOES work, it doesn't work great. I've quadruple checked all my settings and have tested different detection settings, detection zones, detection sensitivity and the results are not very different. In various combinations of settings, this thing will record and upload people walking across the street, but will occasionally ignore the mailman, and ignore even me entering and leaving. So who knows what else it doesn't upload. 6 month battery life? LOL!!! 3 weeks, max. Again, I've gone thru 2 units with the same results. I've even gone so far as to have the cable company swap my router, thankfully that didn't cost me anything. By the way, you can't switch the network on these things without deleting them from your profile and reconfiguring as a new camera. To top it all off, the doorbell itself also emits a chime when pressed, rather loud, and there's no way to shut that off. The Wyze OG cam I have in the backyard works perfectly, though. I'll probably just install another in the front and have a normal doorbell. UPDATE: All problems persisting, now the smart detection settings occasionally reset. I just want people and packages to be recorded. Every week or so it switches back to people, pets, vehicles, and packages. So every time a car passes, it records, and this drains the battery even quicker. Some days I wind up with 30+ videos of cars passing by. Still on other days, nothing, not even myself leaving or arriving. Truly a piece of garbage.

Own several Wyze cameras so no stranger to the brand. Being on the Cam Unlimited plan the doorbell Pro does the job just fine. Finding the build quality to be above average. All brackets are included for various types of install, adhesive, screws, angled, wired. Image quality during daytime is more than sufficient yet I feel nighttime could have been a tad better. The 150 degree field of view is great. Response to motion is reasonable, two-way communication via speaker/mic is good, chime works well. Battery life is OK yet not expecting miracle's here, as I've yet to own anything in this realm that has been stellar. Overall I am quite happy with my purchase easily recommending to those who need such a device.
