AOSU Floodlightcam Pro Wired and 2K Doorbell Camera Review: A Closer Look

Choosing the right security system for your home is a critical decision for any homeowner. Today, we're diving deep into the AOSU Floodlightcam Pro Wired + 2K Doorbell Camera—products that promise HD surveillance without a monthly fee. The features sound enticing, with both devices operated through a seamless app, connectivity via Wi-Fi, and support from popular smart home systems like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

The AOSU Floodlight Camera boasts 3K UHD quality, complete 360° surveillance, motion detection, and a powerful 2600-lumen floodlight for outstanding night vision. Meanwhile, the wireless Doorbell Camera offers a 2K resolution, an ultra-wide 166° view, and a long-lasting battery that can allegedly go 180 days on a single charge. Customers can rest easy knowing these products do not enforce a mandatory subscription fee, although optional cloud storage is available.

The Advantages and Pitfalls

1. Camera Quality and Video Resolution

Both cameras claim high-definition recording with the Floodlight Camera providing 3K UHD footage, while the Doorbell Camera records at 2K. The quality of video capture is often a top priority for customers because clear imagery is crucial during unforeseen incidents.

Pros: One customer noted, "When the camera works, it provides exceptionally clear footage, especially with the Floodlight Camera's wide-angle visibility. The night vision was striking with its color fidelity."

Cons: However, others faced problems with reliability, as summarized by one user, "The video might be 2K, but it glitches frequently and takes ages to load the live feed on the app. It's frustrating during key moments when you rely on it the most."

2. Usability and Compatibility

Installation and ease of use are where many home surveillance systems either shine or stumble. The ability to connect smoothly and use consistently can make or break the user experience.

Pros: A reviewer mentioned, "Setting up the app was straightforward, and connecting the devices to Google Assistant was seamless, as advertised."

Cons: Unfortunately, the connection within the AOSU ecosystem has received less than stellar reviews. As one user pointed out, "Neither of the items are able to bind to the AOSU Homebase. After hours spent troubleshooting, customer support confirmed incompatibility, something vital for standard home security systems. It's getting returned."

3. Functionality and Features

From AI detection to motion-activated alerts, these cameras are packed with features aimed at enhancing home security.

Pros: Some users appreciate the ability to leverage AI to filter out irrelevant alerts. A notable feedback was: "I like how it differentiates between people and pets, reducing unnecessary notifications.”

Cons: The dependency on an internal SD card raised concerns. A customer expressed worry that, "Without subscribing to cloud storage, the reliance is solely on the SD card inside the device. If someone takes the doorbell, they take the recordings with them, rendering the security measure useless."

Durability and Design

In security systems, the build quality significantly impacts the product's longevity and reliability despite environmental conditions.

Pros: Judging by design elements, a user commented, "The construction feels robust and weather-resistant. Even during rain, the cameras held up, which is reassuring."

Cons: On the flip side, another customer felt, “The doorbell camera’s build makes it too easy to detach, compromising its security feature. It's a small detail, but if someone wants to take it off, they easily can."

Final Thoughts

It's evident from the reviews that the AOSU Floodlightcam Pro and the 2K Doorbell Camera attempt to provide a comprehensive security option without recurring fees. The focus on clear video output and intuitive app integration is commendable. Yet, the challenges—specifically compatibility issues with their own home base and an over-reliance on local storage—are serious drawbacks.

Customers have shown mixed feelings, with some appreciating the clarity and range of features when the devices function optimally. Conversely, the inability to bind devices to the home base and concerns over the security of local data storage cast long shadows on potential satisfaction.

Verdict: Given the mixed reviews and areas that require improvement, this product might not yet be ideal for those seeking a flawless, dependable home security solution. Users might want to weigh the pros and cons while considering their specific needs before committing to the purchase.

Comments from Amazon:

Neither of the items are able to bind to AOSU homebase. After a long time trying to figure out what I was doing wrong on the installation and configuration, I contacted client support, and they confirmed these products were incompatible with the home. This is a pretty standard feature across home security systems. I'm returning the item and going to Arlo or Eufy. If you are buying it, be aware that if you opt not to subscribe to their cloud storage, your only option is to rely on the SD card INSIDE THE DEVICE. Reminder: the doorbell is detachable, and anyone can remove it from your front door and leave with the recordings.
