The Ultimate Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 Review: A Comprehensive Guide to Home Security

In an era where home security is paramount, investing in a reliable video doorbell has become a necessity rather than a luxury. The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2, combined with the Ring Chime Pro, stands out as a formidable choice for those interested in enhancing their home surveillance with cutting-edge technology. Boasting features like 1536p HD head-to-toe video, 3D motion detection, and Alexa Greetings, this wired video doorbell delivers peace of mind and convenient interaction with visitors. Paired with its seamless functionality through the Ring app, it offers a robust security experience. Let's dive into the specifics of this product and analyze its strengths and weaknesses based on customer feedback.

Pros and Cons

Quality and Clarity of Video

One of the standout features of the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is its video quality. Boasting an impressive 1536p HD head-to-toe video resolution, it's a definitive upgrade from prior models. Users have particularly appreciated this feature. For instance, the enhanced clarity and wider field of view are not just features on paper—actual users celebrate how much better the coverage is compared to older models. One review states, "Huge improvement in video quality, range, and field of view over our old model." The ability to see even small animals from a substantial distance marks a significant enhancement in video capability.

Installation and Ease of Use

When it comes to installation, simplicity is crucial. Many users were pleased with how straightforward the setup process is for the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2. Leveraging existing wiring, as one user did, makes the process even simpler: "Installation and configuration was as easy as it could be." This sentiment is echoed widely. Another review mentions, "Install was much easier than with my last one at another house 2 years ago." This ease comes largely from versatile power solutions, such as the ability to use a Ring Plug-In Adapter, further eliminating the need for battery changes.

Features Integration with Alexa and Notification System

The integration with Alexa is a futuristic feature that greatly enhances the usability of the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2. Customers have noted this as a significant perk. One reviewer highlights, "One thing that I love is how the Pro 2 works with Alexa. When someone rings the bell, Alexa notifies me via Echo that someone is at the front door." This functionality allows homeowners to respond quickly or be informed immediately, without requiring additional devices, like the Chime for notifications—though some found it redundant after purchase: "I didn’t need the chime so that was a waste of money on my part."

Advanced Motion Detection and Sensitivity

The Pro 2's motion detection system appears to be a major highlight, boasting 3D Motion Detection and Bird’s Eye View for highly accurate motion alerts. Customers have praised its improved ability to differentiate between various movements, such as humans versus animals. However, some users feel there remains room for improvement. "Its ability to distinguish between humans, animals, and the flags blowing is getting better. Not perfect, but getting better," says a reviewer. Overall, the sensitivity and coverage of the motion detection are characterized as top-notch, with substantial precision in alert delivery.

Durability and Reliability

Durability and reliability are often concerns with tech products, especially those exposed to the elements. Fortunately, user experiences suggest that the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is a solid competitor in these areas. One customer, already satisfied with the brand from previous purchases, remarks, "Second house who have had it in, and it is very reliable."

Conclusion

After combing through a multitude of reviews and personal encounters, it's clear that the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 deserves its place as a leading choice for home security solutions. Excelling particularly in video quality, ease of installation, seamless integration with Alexa, and robust detection capabilities, it covers a wide array of customer needs and expectations.

While it does have slight setbacks—like the fact that its motion detection isn't absolutely flawless, this device still sets a high bar with its real-time features and reliability. It clearly strives toward perfection with consistent updates and enhancements, which only adds to its longevity as a trusted product. Therefore, if you're in the market for a mostly hassle-free, robustly functional, and technologically advanced security gadget, the Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is undoubtedly worth the investment, promising to keep your entryway secure and smartly managed.

Comments from Amazon:

Couldn't be happier with the way this video doorbell works and how it looks! Installation and configuration was as easy as it could be. I read many reviews and watched plenty of YouTube videos before I made the decision to purchase this particular model (Pro 2). My house had a very old doorbell/intercom (using Nutone / DoorBell Fon) that I wanted to replace - not only to improve the look of the house entrance but also to get rid of the old intercom and landline phone line. I was able to easily power the Pro2 using the existing wiring. I just patched a Ring Plug-In Adapter (2nd gen) to the existing wires and voila - easy peasy!!! This way I don't have to deal with the hassle of changing batteries, etc. Quality of video is superb - and I can control many features via the iPhone app (for example motion detection settings, motion alerts, alarm mode settings, motion zones, etc. YouTube has plenty of videos on this so no need to expand here. One thing that I love is how the Pro2 works with Alexa. When someone rings the bell, Alexa notifies me via Echo that someone is at the front door. So, there is no need for an additional Chime device to get notified someone is at the front door. Pictures show the old intercom and the new Pro2 installed. I bought the wall plate cover from Kyles Wall Plates and some angle adapters from Amazon. Looks awesome!!!

Perfect coverage.

Ring was the first, now there are many brands out there, the ring brand does the job great. Second house who have had it in, and it is very reliable, detects motion very well, and it's ability the to distinguish between humans, animals, and the flags blowing is getting better. Not perfect, but getting better. I hear the Eufy brand is much better at distinguishing between movements.

These work great. I have more than a dozen cameras and doorbells at my multi family property.

Huge improvement in video quality, range and field of view over our old model. The old one could not pick up motion from small animals. This one caught a cat walking by 30 feet away. Our one only got small animals if they were about 6 ft away. The width of the view is greater and the video quality was noticably better also.

I didn’t know how it worked so I bought it with the chime. I didn’t need the chime so that was a waste of money on my part.

Sensitivity is perfect and coverage is awesome. Install was much easier than with my last one at another house 2 years ago. Very satisfied.
