The Smart Doorbell Camera allows for two-way communication, and its integration with the Ecobee ecosystem provides further convenience. You can get instant alerts for opened doors and windows, reduce energy costs with smart feature integration, and even potentially lower insurance costs thanks to increased security.
Installation Experience: Easy and Intuitive
One of the standout features of the Ecobee Home Security Bundle is its simplicity in installation. Many customers echoed their positive experiences about setting up the system:
-
"I couldn’t be happier with the Ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera," one user shared. They appreciated the smooth installation experience and the ease afforded by the detailed walkthrough guide available on the app. For those who prefer a neat setup, users mentioned how easy it was to hide wires with a few additional tweaks, maintaining a clean and professional look around the doorbell.
-
For those without an existing doorbell, the Ecobee was noted as straightforward to install once a basic doorbell system was in place. A user from Winnipeg, who was concerned about the system's performance in cold weather, found it functioned perfectly even at -25°C.
-
Others highlighted the need for basic tools such as a drill, drill bit, and screwdriver for the installation. The step-by-step guide in the app was widely praised for making this process accessible even for individuals new to smart home technology.
Seamless Integration: Ecobee Ecosystem at Its Best
Ecobee’s unique selling point is its seamless integration with other Ecobee devices, something that customers have consistently appreciated:
-
The synergy between the Ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera and the Ecobee Smart Thermostat was particularly lauded. Multiple customers loved the feature that allowed doorbell camera footage to be displayed on their thermostat screens. This feature provides immediate visual access to whoever is at the door without needing to reach for a phone.
-
The integration extends further with the Ecobee app, allowing the Smart Camera and Smart Sensors to function in harmony, providing a comprehensive security overview of the home. As one user pointed out, being able to control both the thermostat and the camera system through a single app made home management remarkably easy.
-
Users switching from other systems, such as the Ring Doorbell, noted the convenience of Ecobee’s ecosystem and the ease of integrating new devices into an existing Apple HomeKit setup. The HomeKit integration enhances the product's appeal for those invested in the Apple ecosystem.
Features and Usability: Functionality at Its Core
When discussing the product’s features, several customers were impressed with its functionality and performance:
-
The full HD resolution with 1080p HDR was praised, ensuring high-quality video capture that doesn’t miss any crucial details. Real-time alerts, live remote viewing, and two-way communication have offered users peace of mind, especially when traveling.
-
A unique feature is the system's ability to reduce energy waste and costs by turning off the HVAC system when doors are left open. This not only helps with efficiency but adds another layer of automation to the home.
-
However, some users cited challenges with the software, particularly with motion and activity notifications. One customer mentioned the difficulty in setting up simple motion alerts, which contrasted with the seamless experience offered by other components of the Ecobee lineup.
-
Despite these concerns, others indicated that issues were resolved with subsequent software updates, suggesting Ecobee’s commitment to improving user experience and addressing problems swiftly.
Durability and Reliability: Handling the Elements
Ecobee’s hardware stands up well over time and under varying environmental conditions:
-
Users in cold climates like Alberta have attested to the camera's durability in freezing temperatures, a testament to the product's robust construction. One customer noted that, even during a week-long cold spell below -30°C, the device operated without issues.
-
The reliance on existing home infrastructure, such as a 16v transformer, has been appreciated by users who found installing additional equipment unnecessary. This has contributed to the system’s attractive ease-of-use proposition.
-
Additionally, reports about the built-in battery in the chime adapter—which reduces the overall system power demand—demonstrate thoughtful engineering from Ecobee, aimed at making the system as user-friendly as possible.
Conclusion: A Promising Product with Room for Growth
The Ecobee Home Security Bundle with Smart Doorbell Camera stands out for its ease of installation, seamless integration, and comprehensive feature set designed to enhance home security. While software aspects, particularly around notifications, leave room for improvement, Ecobee’s prompt response to feedback and updates demonstrates a commitment to addressing user concerns.
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a smart security solution that integrates well with existing Ecobee products and offers efficient functionality, this bundle is worth considering. It supports homeowners who value the integration of security within a broader smart home ecosystem while offering practical energy-saving solutions. While seasoned users may miss a few features from competitor products like Ring, the Ecobee system remains a strong contender in the smart home security market.

Comments from Amazon:
First impressions for us was a sleek design but even better was the easy installation. I am a visual learner so the ability to have the walkthrough guide on the app was SO helpful. A surprising feature for us was that it integrated to our Ecobee smart premium thermostat so the video shows up on the thermostat for quick viewing. I love that feature the most, especially if I am not near my phone. The quality of picture is amazing and the audio is great too. My main concern was responsiveness because our last camera was terrible. This is on time. The only thing that lags just a bit is the audio but barely. I would recommend this product, especially if you have Ecobee products elsewhere in your home. If you do choose to get a subscription, there is even a feature that recognizes a package delivery versus a person at the door. The pricing is also pretty reasonable!
I’m coming from having a ring doorbell (2 of them) and I really enjoyed the ring camera. I purchased the Ecobee doorbell because it integrates with Apple HomeKit and honestly I just wanted to try something new. The installation was awesome, so easy. The App walks you through the entire installation and I was super impressed. Best of all, it comes with a doorbell chime adapter, unlike the Ring (at least when I bought my Ring doorbell). The entire process took 45 min. Keep in mind you’ll likely need a power drill (to drill very small holes in wood), drill bit, and screwdriver. If you have masonry or other material you’ll need different tools, but this is a 101 level project and I’m confident anyone can complete with the solid instructions from the app, which is step-by-step. The quality of the product itself is great, and feels premium. Yes, it’s bigger than my Ring Pro but barely. The doorbell button is obvious and perfectly placed. The camera quality is great and the HomeKit integration is awesome and fast. I have an embarrassing amount of items in HomeKit and this was super simple to add. The camera loads fast and is high quality. My reasoning for 4 stars is with the software and motion/activity notifications. It’s frustratingly difficult to receive simple notifications when someone walks in front of the camera. I am no Einstein, but I shouldn’t have to search google to figure this step out. So far, I’ve been unable to figure this out to my satisfaction and this is done so well on Ring that this seems like a huge miss by Ecobee. It should be as simple as one button to turn these notifications on, no disarming or unarming. They get really close here but seems like they overthought this OR (more likely) I’m just missing the obvious. If their programmers are listening, you have a real winner on your hands if you just make motion alerts simpler and more obvious, none of this disarm/arm/Smart Security/confusing stuff. I will gladly give this 5 stars if either I can figure this out or they upstate the software. UPDATE: I figured out the notifications eventually but they were inconsistent and not reliable. I went back to my Ring Doorbell Pro 2 and it’s much better. This is all my opinion and I think in time the Ecobee will be great.
I have been researching doorbells with a security camera for a couple months now. From the integration point of view, Echobee is my top choice. I decided to buy the smart doorbell to try it out. It's working great and I plan on buying the Ecobee thermostat for our home and using the paid monitoring services. The doorbell installation is very easy and the online instructions are clear. I got everything installed in about 2 hrs. One tip is that you need to pay attention if the backplate installation is needed. The hole on the backplate has to be on the bottom or the screw on the doorbell camera has to be tightened from the top doorbell camera which is different from Echobee's instructions. The doorbell camera works as expected from auto package/person/motion detection, two-way talk etc. You can take a snapshot on the camera but you cannot zoom in on the snapshot photo from the Echobee mobile app. You need to download the photo from the app and view it from your photo apps.
I've had the doorbell camera for almost two months. The camera functions well, the image quality is nice, and install was a breeze. I also live in northern Alberta, and it functioned without issue during an entire week below -30 degrees celsius. The subscription to have your videos saved on the cloud isn't overly pricey and reasonable. Having to pay a subscription is really the only drawback so far. I like that it integrates with my ecobee smart thermostat, but the functionality is limited since the image only appears on the thermostat screen when someone presses the doorbell button. I wish it would appear on tbe thermostat whenever motion is detected. I'm also pleased that this doorbell camera works with my house's old 16v 10va transformer, and that I didn't need to install a new one. Most new smart cameras require a higher voltage transformer with greater amperage output. I believe the ecobee doesn't require as much power due to the chime adapter having it's own battery. This would reduce the total on system when the mechanical chime is activated. But that's just my personal speculation. There was an issue with the zoom/pan feature, but support was quick to get back to me via email, and they assured me the issue would be resolved with the next patch/update. This proved to be true, and the issue is resolved. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase so far. And having full control of my home's thermostat and camera on the same app is a pleasant experience. I'd recommend this product to anyone okay with paying for a subscription.
This is my first time trying out a video doorbell so I was nervous it would be difficult to figure out the wiring. To my surprise, the installation flow was fast and easy thanks to helpful mobile install guide in the app. I was really happy that my old mechanical chime in the house actually works with the ecobee doorbell camera after I installed the small chime adapter that was included in the box - call me old school, but I love the sound of my old chime. The videos load quickly on my mobile phone and the wide field of view really captures the view of my porch well. As my front door is quite close to the sidewalk, I was worried it would pickup the motion from all the passersby but ecobee thought of that and included a detection range adjustment in the app - so I was able to adjust the range so that motion and person detection only captures people on my porch and ignores the people on the sidewalk. The best part of all is the integration with the thermostat. I didn't think I would care for this feature as much as I do! Whenever someone rings the doorbell, I can glance at the thermostat in my living room to see who is outside. An excellent product overall. My only wish is that they make a camera floodlight too!
My wife wanted a doorbell camera but two things stood in my way. 1. I did not have an existing doorbell, 2. I live in Winnipeg where -25C will eat wireless doorbell camera batteries lime they are M&Ms, and 3. I didn't know where to start. So first I installed a basic doorbell. Relatively easy if you are at all handy. Took about an hour. After that installing the ecobee was really easy. Like 20 minutes easy. I already had an ecobee thermostat so I had the app, but that would have been a trivial step if I needed to do that too. The door bell works great. I can pick up packages left on my porch, and I have not even gotten to some of the features that the doorbell camera offers. Would highly recommend.
I couldn’t be happier with the Ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera. We recently moved into a new home, and I wanted a reliable security solution before heading on a Royal Caribbean cruise. After some research, this one seemed like the best fit, and I’m thrilled with my choice. Installation & Customization: Setting it up was smooth, especially with the Vivria power adapter I bought separately, which worked perfectly with my setup. I took a bit of extra time to drill at an angle to hide the wires, as shown in my photos, to keep things as clean as possible. While the wire-hiding part was more about personal preference, the doorbell itself was truly plug-and-play, and everything you need for the basic install is in the box. As you can see in the pictures, the install was clean other than my first missed drill attempt/minor paint touchups. Integration with Ecobee Ecosystem: What makes this doorbell camera shine is how well it integrates with my Ecobee Thermostat. Not only was setup a breeze with the Ecobee app, but I can actually use the thermostat as a video hub when someone rings the doorbell (you can see this in the photo). This setup lets me see and speak to visitors directly from the thermostat, which is super handy. Plus, both the thermostat and my Ecobee indoor cameras work as chimes, so no matter where we are in the house, we can hear when someone’s at the door. Peace of Mind While Away: The camera gave us total peace of mind while we were on vacation. The live remote viewing, real-time alerts, and the fact that it qualifies us for an insurance discount make this doorbell camera worth every penny. It really helped us relax, knowing we could check in on the house whenever we wanted. Final Thoughts: I can’t recommend the Ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera enough. It’s a solid investment that makes home security simple and seamless. If you already have an Ecobee setup, this is a no-brainer.
